New eLibrary
Students and staff at the St Joseph campus now have access to a shared eLibrary with over 2,000 eBooks and Audiobooks. The collection, which includes a wide range of genres from classics to the latest releases, will be regularly updated with new titles.
eBooks have many advantages. They are light and portable - you can carry many books with you. You can adjust the font, size, spacing and background to suit individual preferences.
The ePlatform app has dyslexia friendly settings to assist students with dyslexia or other reading challenges. There is also a night reading setting. While reading you can get word definitions, highlight, search the text and add notes.
Audiobooks can improve reading comprehension, they provide a demonstration of good reading, they make challenging texts m
ore accessible and they hold us to the text – no skipping or skimming. For some titles, there is an eBook and an audiobook in the eLibrary, so students could borrow both and then read and listen to the book at the same time. This method would have the biggest impact on literacy skills.
Our eLibrary is available anytime from anywhere. Students simply need to download the ePlatform app to a phone, tablet, Mac or PC. They can always have a book with them, ready to read or listen to on the bus, during the holidays or whenever they get the urge. Students and staff can borrow two books for two weeks.
