Meerkat Productions Incursion

The dynamic duo of actors from Meerkat Productions presented plays of two books shortlisted for the Book of the Year Awards. The first, Gary written and illustrated by Lelia Rudge is the story of a racing pigeon that cannot fly. However Gary still has ambitions and dreams and one day, when he unexpectedly finds himself far from home, he uses his knowledge and persistence to enable him to have an exciting adventure. The students in Foundation to Year 3 were totally entranced with the simple, sweet story and the way they actors brought the characters of Gary and his friends to life through costume and puppetry.

The second play, Captain Jimmy Cook Discovers Third Grade by Kate & Jol Temple is an hilarious and often slapstick account of how Jimmy Cook attempts to retrieve the treasured possessions of his great explorer ancestor that he believes are being held by marauding tribal Hawaiians. Students in Year 4 - Year 6 particularly enjoyed the audience participation of the play when students were selected to be museum exhibits and Mr Wyllie took on the role of Bernie, the ‘Big Deal’ magazine seller outside the local supermarket.
